we'll get along just fine!

"She makes me laugh every single day.

When my dog is happy,
I'm happy."

I'd do just about anything
to see that tail wag.

"Allison Shamrell is a pleasure to work with,
and is truly at the top of her profession.
Her careful eye captures the essence of each animal's character with personality barking off each photograph."

- Casey Dean,
San Diego Humane Society

"She gave us more than photos, she gave us an experience that we'll always cherish. I highly recommend her; I have 1,000's of photos of Peroni on my phone, but Allison's were like none I could capture. She really is talented!"

"I cannot say enough great things about Allison. The photos she captured are amazing and everyone who sees them can't believe how awesome they are.  We always hear "It looks like a magazine ad" or "your dogs look like models..."  The work is incredible.  And it is a beautiful thing to see someone doing the work they were meant to do."

"I have to admit that at first I was a little skeptical. I adore my dogs, but I didn't think I was the kind of person to spend money on professional photos of them. I thought this would be fun, but had no idea how much I would appreciate the experience & the pictures in the end. I can honestly say, the photos of my fur-kids from Allison will be some of my most cherished possessions, especially as my dogs age, and long after they're gone. If you're looking for someone to photograph your pets, stop looking -- this is who you need behind the camera!"

"Allison is a professional in every sense of the word. She doesn't just show up, shoot photos and then send you an online link of images. She involves you in the entire process and takes you from concept to final product in an incredibly thoughtful, and enjoyable manner!"

"I've never been able to get very good pictures of Penny because she is constantly on the move, but that didn't stop Allison from being able to get beautiful photos of her!"

"We all take lots of pictures of our dogs, and actually get some good ones sometimes, but Allison captures interesting angles with a peek of the owner. Although we hired Allison for the photos of our dog, it sure is fun to get them back with that element of surprise and find ourselves in a few!"

"I loved the fact that despite being a pet specialist, Allison was great with my kids.  She incorporated what we wanted in pictures and totally added ideas that we had never thought of and loved.  The pictures and books we purchased were a great value and we will truly treasure them for a lifetime."

"Allison is amazingly talented! We picked 3 of our favorite photos to be printed as canvas gallery wraps, and they turned out beautifully and we love seeing them on the wall everyday!"

"Allison went above and beyond our expectations! She is awesome, great with animals and people. She is worth every penny!"

ASPEN's

"Allison took our sweet family and captured expressions and bonds that only the eye of a true animal lover can see. In today's market where a dollar is spent wisely, I have no regrets for this investment in capturing the love between pet and child.  Irrevocably PRICELESS!"

 1. My dog is crazy. He/she never sits still. Can you still photograph him/her?

Absolutely! I've worked with many different types of "crazy" pets before. Most of them simply require more session time, such as high-energy dogs. I've also developed a process for working with extremely shy and skittish dogs, which ensures that they stay comfortable and we end up with beautiful images. It helps that I have a nearly-limitless supply of patience (and treats)!

 2. DO YOU REALLY SPECIALIZE IN JUST PETS?

Yes, really! I've photographed pets exclusively for over four years now. Dogs are my specialty; I've studied canine body language & psychology, so I know the best way to work with pets that have all kinds of different temperaments. For example, if you have two dogs and one is timid while the other is outgoing, I can coax your shy pup out of his/her shell while capturing the boundless happiness of the other, too. Dogs have incredibly distinct personalities - and I know how to show them off!

 3. WHERE DO SESSIONS TAKE PLACE?

Choosing a session location is one of the most important parts of the custom photography experience. I discuss this with each client during our personal Pre-Session Consultation. In general, I'm happy to come to your house if that's where your pet is most comfortable, or if he/she doesn't travel well. We could also go to my studio, or a pretty place in San Diego! It's up to you!

 4. MY HOUSE IS TOO MESSY FOR A SESSION!

Don't be silly! I'll be focusing on your pet, not the bits of clutter and dust in the corners of the room! As long as you're not a contender for a future episode of Hoarders, I'd love to visit where you & your pet spend most of your time together. I'll probably ask for the grand tour, so I can see where the best light occurs, and I think you'll love having images that are so personal.

 5. CAN I BE IN THE PHOTOS TOO?

Oh, I thought you'd never ask! I really love capturing the unique relationship between pets and their people; I think the bond you have with your animal(s) is beautiful - and even a little bit magical. If you're uncomfortable in front of a camera, I'll help you relax, and I promise we'll have fun! My clients often tell me, "I usually hate how I look in pictures - but I actually love how I look in your photos!" A knowledge of flattering posing & lighting goes a long way past the typical snapshots you're used to.

6. I DON'T HAVE A DOG - BUT WILL YOU PHOTOGRAPH MY CAT/HORSE/BIRD?

Of course! I am a PET photographer, after all - I have experience with feline and equine photography and I'd be thrilled to work with you to capture whatever species you love! (Except velociraptors. I've seen Jurassic Park one too many times.)

7. WHAT KIND OF EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE, AND WHAT EXPERIENCE DO YOU HAVE?

Excellent question. I shoot digital - it allows me to keep costs down and deliver a variety of final products. I use Canon equipment, and my workhorse lens is my L-series 24-70mm f/2.8 IS (but I love my 50mm f/1.4 almost as much). My photography background (before I started shooting pets exclusively) is in action sports photography, and I think my experience with fast-moving subjects prepared me well for the crazy antics of dogs! If you're a Notre Dame fan, I'd be happy to show you my past work. If you're a USC fan, you should know that your session will cost double. (just kidding... maybe!)

8. WHAT HAPPENS
AFTER OUR SESSION?

You get to sit back and relax! My work has just begun: I'll be busy posting a Sneak Peek for you on my blog, backing up and archiving your images so they'll be safe for years to come, picking out the very best photos with wagging tails and bright eyes, and digitally retouching those images to ensure they look simply stunning. Once I'm done with this process, which takes about 1-2 weeks, we'll get together for our Ordering Session. That's when you get to see all your images, and see & touch my innovative products in person. Once you pick out your favorites, I'll optimize your images for the mediums you've chosen (such as canvas), design any albums you've ordered, and send your selections to my professional printing labs. Once everything has arrived at my studio & I've done a final quality check, it's like Christmas morning - you get to come collect all your beautiful products!

Probably. He might start bragging to the neighborhood dogs and prancing around your house, looking for cameras in front of which to pose. It's a common side effect.

9. WILL MY PET HAVE A HUGE EGO AFTER OUR SESSION?
